Tomaska rolling mill

In the village of Bistrica, the watermills are like keepers of time,

grinding the past and present into a unique symphony that never stops playing.

About Bistrica

The village of Bistrica is one of the older settlements in this region. The first written mention of this place is in the Charter of Prince Lazar during the founding of the Gornjak Monastery in 1378.

Tomaska rolling mill

The Tomasević Rolling Mill has been designated as an immovable cultural property – a cultural monument – by the Decision of the Municipal Assembly of Petrovac na Mlavи (No. 020-49/82 dated March 30, 1982). It is located about one hundred meters downstream from the Marjanović Watermill, also in an area known as Lještar. The organization of the space and the construction method are the same as those of the previous watermill, except that the mechanism is located on the left side of the entrance, while in the previous one, it is on the right side.

From 1983 to 1985, renovation and reconstruction works were carried out on the rolling mill, as well as repairs to the mechanism. In the meantime, the rolling mill has been regularly maintained and is in good condition. Recently, the roof was replaced with new cut timber and uniformly covered with pepper tiles. However, several details on the structure were made very unprofessionally from cut timber. This use of cut timber has partially diminished the monumental qualities of the building.

The mud plaster on the section of the building constructed with stone has cracked. It is necessary to completely remove the plaster, re-plaster with mud mortar, and whitewash. The roof structure made of cut timber should be replaced with hewn timber. Repairs to the rolling mechanism need to be made, along with the construction of a new wheel.
